Save pages to your Vault, copy a clean link, and make a short link or QR code from the toolbar or a right-click in Chrome and other Chromium browsers.

The DexURL extension puts Vault in your browser toolbar and right-click menu. It works in Chrome and other Chromium browsers on desktop, including Edge, Brave, Opera, and Vivaldi, and installs from the Chrome Web Store: search for "DexURL: Save, Clean & Shorten Links", or use the install link on the Vault page. There is no Firefox or Safari version. Every extension feature is included on Free and Pro; Free still holds 25 Vault bookmarks.

Install and connect

Install it

Add DexURL from the Chrome Web Store. A welcome page opens the first time.

Connect this browser

On the welcome page choose "Just connect my account", or open the connect page while signed in, and click Connect this browser. The page hands the extension a one-time code, and the extension trades it for its own connection key. Until you connect, the popup still copies clean links and draws QR codes; saving and short links need the connection.

Save from the popup or a right-click

• Popup: "Save to Vault" saves the page you are on with any labels you pick, tags suggested from the site, and a Private switch. If the page is already in your Vault, the popup says so and lets you update its labels and tags instead of saving it twice.
• Right-click: "Save to DexURL Vault" works on the page, on a link you right-click, or on a URL inside text you have selected. The submenu offers Save (no label), your most recently used labels, and New label. Saving something already in your Vault adds the label to the existing item.
• A bookmark can have several labels, and they are the same labels you see in Vault.
• Tracking parameters such as utm_source and fbclid are removed from the address before it is saved. Only http and https pages can be saved.
• Each save counts toward your Vault limit, which is 25 on Free. When the Vault is full the extension says so and points to plans.

Clean link, short link, and QR code

"Copy clean link" copies the page address without tracking parameters. "Short link" creates a DexURL short link for the page and copies it. It is an ordinary short link, so it counts toward your plan's short-link limit. The QR code is drawn on your device and can be downloaded as a PNG; nothing about it is uploaded. The right-click menu also has "Copy DexURL short link" and "Show QR code" for a page, a link, or selected text.

Keyboard shortcuts

• Alt+Shift+D opens the DexURL popup.
• Alt+Shift+S saves the current page to your Vault, with no label.
• Alt+Shift+L copies a DexURL short link for the current page.
• You can change any of them on your browser's extension shortcuts page.

Browse your Vault from the popup

Once connected, the popup has a Vault tab with search, label filters, and Open, Copy link, QR, and Labels actions for each item. Private items are never sent to the extension. By default the tab stays hidden until you click Show, every time the popup opens. The Settings link in the popup footer lets you keep that gate or turn Vault browsing off, which removes the tab. Saving, short links, and QR codes keep working with browsing off.

Import your browser bookmarks

The welcome page, and "Clean up my bookmarks" in the popup footer, can send your browser bookmarks to the Vault import review step instead of an HTML file. The extension asks for bookmark access only when you click that button, reads the bookmarks once, and changes nothing in your browser. Nothing is saved to your Vault until you confirm on the review step, where the free clean-up report applies. See Bookmark Import for the review step.

What the extension sends and stores

• The address and title of a page when you save it, and the address you shorten.
• The page address when you open the popup while connected, so it can show whether the page is already in your Vault.
• Your Vault label names, kept on your device to build the right-click menu and the label chips. The Vault tab list is held in memory while the popup is open and is not written to disk.
• Your bookmarks, once, and only if you choose "Clean up my bookmarks" and allow access.
• A revocable connection key, stored in your browser.
• It does not read your browsing history, your other tabs, or page content, and it has no analytics or advertising code. QR codes are made on your device.

Disconnect

Click Disconnect in the popup footer to revoke that browser's connection key and clear it from the browser. You can also revoke any browser from Settings → Security → Connected browsers; the extension in that browser stops working until it is connected again. If you uninstall the extension, revoke its entry there too so the key stops working on DexURL's side.
