Bookmark Import
Drop in a bookmark export from any major browser, get a free clean-up report, and review everything before anything is saved.
Free includes 25 bookmarks; Pro is unlimited. HTML import and export stay on Free within that cap. CSV import and export are Pro.
A normal website cannot read the bookmarks currently stored in your browser. Export an HTML file from the desktop bookmark manager, then drop that file into Vault or choose it with the file picker. On desktop Chrome and other Chromium browsers, the DexURL browser extension can send your bookmarks straight to the review step instead. Most mobile browsers cannot export bookmarks; save the desktop file to Files, iCloud Drive, Google Drive, or Downloads and select it on your phone.
- Chrome / Edge / Brave / Opera / Vivaldi: open the bookmark or favorites manager and choose Export bookmarks / Export favorites.
- Firefox: Library window → Import and Backup → Export Bookmarks to HTML.
- Safari on Mac: File → Export → Bookmarks. Safari on iPhone and iPad cannot export directly.
- In DexURL Vault, choose Import, add the file, then review. Unsupported schemes such as javascript: are skipped per item.
- Export a Netscape Bookmark HTML file whenever you want. HTML exports are plaintext. Optional .dexvault backups preserve folders, tags, and pin state, are password-encrypted in your browser, and cannot be imported into Chrome or Safari. To restore one, choose Import, pick the .dexvault file, and enter the same password — DexURL unlocks it in your browser. CSV import and export are Pro.
The free clean-up report
Before anything saves, the review step shows a clean-up report: how many bookmarks were in the file, how many duplicates it can merge, how many are already in your Vault, how many tracking parameters it can strip from the URLs, how many folders it can tidy, and how many it can auto-tag by host. Each of the four clean-ups (merge duplicates, remove tracking parameters, tidy folders, auto-tag) is a toggle, on by default, and the report recomputes live. The report itself is free for every plan; saving is still gated by the Free 25-bookmark cap. A "Tidy up" button on the Vault page runs the same clean-up over bookmarks you already saved.
Put a bookmark to work
Each saved bookmark has a "More actions" (⋯) menu with three shortcuts: Create short link opens Create with the destination already filled in, QR code shows a static QR of the bookmark URL with PNG and SVG downloads (with a link to turn it into a dynamic QR that can be edited or tracked later), and Add to Bio page appends it to one of your Bio pages — as new draft content if that page is already published, so nothing changes for visitors until you publish. Select multiple bookmarks, or filter to one folder, to add several at once.
Link health checks
Saved links rot: Pew Research Center found 38% of webpages that existed in 2013 were no longer accessible in 2023 ("When Online Content Disappears", pewresearch.org, May 2024). "Check links" on the Vault page tests each saved bookmark and flags what it finds: Moved (the destination now redirects somewhere else, with a one-click "Use new address"), Dead link (404 or 410, with a link to an archived copy on the Wayback Machine), Unreachable (timed out or refused the connection), or Domain for sale (the destination now shows a parking page). A "Needs attention" filter collects all of them in one view. Free can check each saved link once; Pro can re-check on demand (throttled to once per hour per link) and gets regular automatic re-checks of your saved links, plus a "Fix moved links" button that updates every redirected bookmark to its new address at once. No page content is stored — the archived-copy link is built from the URL, not from a copy DexURL keeps.
