SMS QR code generator

An SMS QR code opens the phone's messaging app with a number, and optionally a message, already filled in when scanned.

Set the number and, if useful, starter text, and scanning the code opens a ready-to-send text message.

Everything happens in your browser. Your Wi-Fi password and contact details never leave it.

This code is static: once printed, where it points can't change. An editable DexURL QR can. Read does a QR code expire.

How it works

Enter the phone number

Include a country code for a number that people outside your country might scan.

Add starter text

Optional. A short prompt like "I'm interested in..." saves the sender from typing from scratch.

Download and print

Works well on flyers, event signage, or anywhere a quick text reply beats a phone call.

A campaign poster or packaging runA typo or an offer change means every printed copy is wrong until it is thrown out.Fix the typo or swap the offer, and the same printed code starts working correctly.
A menu or price listA price change means reprinting every table tent or laminated page.Update the destination page once; the printed code keeps pointing at the current menu.
A business cardA new phone number or job title means every card in circulation is out of date.Repoint the code to updated contact details without reprinting a single card.
Wi-Fi in a rented spaceA password reset (a new tenant, a router swap) leaves the printed code connecting to nothing.Update the network details behind the code without touching the sign on the wall.
Event signage with a scheduleA room or time change means the printed code sends people to the wrong place.Update the schedule page; the code on the signage keeps working.
Anywhere scan counts matterA static code cannot tell you whether anyone scanned it at all.Scans pass through a link you control, so they can be counted.

FAQ

Does this work for iMessage and regular SMS the same way?

Scanning opens the phone's default messaging app addressed to the number; whether that becomes iMessage or SMS depends on the recipient device, the same as texting the number directly.

Can I use a short code or landline?

Only a number capable of receiving texts will work — a landline or a short code the carrier does not support for two-way messaging will not receive a reply.

Can the message be changed after printing?

Not on a static code. For a number or message that might change, an editable DexURL QR can be updated without reprinting.
